The Free Linux Disk Project July 14th
I have been pondering on the future of TheLinuxStore.ca a lot lately. It has never been my intent to get rich selling Linux CDs. Having said that, TheLinuxStore.ca is my full-time job. I am filling orders and helping users as much as I can. Selling Linux disks has been a great way to help some needy projects. Part of our sales are used to fund variuos Linux projects and I hope to continue this. But, I often felt that I wasn't giving enough to the community. So, I defined a new mission for TheLinuxStore.ca.
TheLinuxStore.ca's Mission
To help spread Linux and open source software around the world. To insure people realize they have a choice of which software to use. A choice that could save them lot of time and money. To enable those who do not have the means to experience the joys technology can bring. Joys such as ease of communication, almost unlimited learning, the joys of sharing knowledge and wisdom. To assist needy and innovative projects that are in-line with this vision. To promote the use of software that is in-line with this vision. To promote such software in a positive manner.
The first project under this mission is The Free Linux Disk Project (maybe it needs a better name?). This project will help spread Linux disks around the world. It was launched at midnight July 13 and picked up on Digg.com. I was then contacted by Tina at NewsForge for an interview. You can read her write-up at NewsForge.com.
There is now a HUGE amount of requests, 6500 in the first 48 hours (average of 2.5 requests per minute). There is still a big need for donations and sponsors to help fill these orders. If you can, please donate to help the project. And a special thanks to all those who have donated so far.
Thanks to all those who have given comments and feedback. I have received hundreds of great comments and many great suggestions. I will continue to read your comments and suggestions.
Until next time ...
